Ken Lewis LaCosse
April 9, 1960 — June 28, 2019
Ken LaCosse passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on June 28, 2019 in San Francisco, California.

Though the news was relayed on the European Shakuhachi Society, I felt more people could be informed through this forum, though it is not much active those days.
For those who knew him, it could be an occasion to share stories and memories about him. When I learned about Ken, I went on the web and find out extra informations about him, felt he was already a missing friend. I had the chance to phone and mail to him a few times, as I got some of his Mujitsu jinashi (second hand) and one Taimu, and deeply appreciate his approach of shakuhachi making and play them almost everyday.
He was a person pushing the limits, innovative and creative, non conformist, straighforward and truly human. He was really generous in his way to share his knowledge of flute making, and creating and gardening the previous shakuhachi forum some years ago.
He adapted for me one of his Taimu to fit better my hands, he did the job for almost nothing, with a lot of care and quality.
He really created a revival of jinashi and hochiku, with a style of his own and a quality probably underrated, as mentioned once Tairaku.
All of this has already being said, with different words.
He is now teaching, to me at least, that life is short and precious, and to live it to the fullest is the only option. It seems he applied that for himself.
