Hello all! Nick Bellando of www.kinpu-ryu.com and www.hon-on.com here.
A few days ago, I launched a campaign to fund a full translation of the book 錦風流尺八本曲伝 (Kinpu-ryu Shakuhachi Honkyoku Transmission) into English.
The book is over 200 pages, 70 of which are Kinpu-ryu shakuhachi scores from several different masters, including alternate modes (cho-shi) and several 3-shakuhachi honkyoku pieces.
For those of you who don't know, Kinpu-ryu is a school of shakuhachi that grew out of the Nezasa-ha school of Fuke shakuhachi. Kinpu-ryu is native to Hirosaki, where I live with my family, making and teaching Kinpu and Myoan-ryu shakuhachi.
The book was written by the first Kinpu-ryu prefectural intangible cultural treasure holder, Reigetsu Uchiyama. It was re-published in the 1980's, but with very few copies, and is now utterly unavailable. I received permission from the author's son, as well as the copyright holder from the revised edition, to translate it into English, complete with scores, and make it available to the international shakuhachi community.
Please see the indiegogo site for details: https://igg.me/at/kinpu
The book will be published complete with scores, plus an additional set of scores not found in the original by the Matsuoka brothers, who were also cultural treasure holders for Kinpu-ryu before they passed on the torch to my Kinpu-ryu teacher, Dr. Yamada.
The cost is $35 to reserve a copy, and then $25 to buy it upon publication, for a final cost of $60 (USD). The book will be hardbound in red linen, just like the original. Please contact me if you have any questions.
